Skilled Trades College

Canada faces a skyrocketing need for skilled trades workers, with thousands of jobs opening up as retirees leave and construction grows.

Canada faces a skyrocketing need for skilled trades workers, with thousands of jobs opening up as retirees leave and construction grows. As demand soars, many talented individuals, including formerly incarcerated persons, miss out on these opportunities.

Skilled Trades College (STC) new initiative offers hands-on, 12-week pre-apprenticeship programs in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and home renovation, held at eight southern Ontario campuses. Formerly incarcerated participants get real-world training, safety certifications, toolkits, and job placements, along with wrap-around support from community partners to tackle other challenges like housing or mental health.

Northpine Foundation invested in this Skilled Trades College venture, and industry allies like RONA. With a 90% employment rate within 12 weeks for grads, this initiative turns lives around by matching skills to demand in this high-growth field, opening doors to stable careers, independence, and a fresh start.
