Online Tutoring for Indigenous Children and Youth in and from Care

tutorbright

The venture will serve youth across Manitoba, Ontario, and British Columbia with one-to-one online tutoring, with tutors trained in trauma-informed practice and cultural responsiveness.

Northpine Foundation has invested in TutorBright’s tutoring program to help Indigenous youth in Grades 3–9 with child welfare involvement build foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Indigenous children represent 53.8% of those in foster care despite making up only 7.7% of the child population, and youth in care face significantly lower educational outcomes than their peers.

The venture will serve youth across Manitoba, Ontario, and British Columbia with one-to-one online tutoring, with tutors trained in trauma-informed practice and cultural responsiveness. Each student will work with a dedicated tutor who provides both academic support and a stable mentoring relationship.

Outcomes will be independently evaluated to measure gains in reading, math, engagement, and well-being. The goal is for participants to reach grade-level literacy and numeracy, strengthening their pathway to high school completion and beyond.
