Boosting Scarborough Youth School Attendance with The Borough FC

Northpine Foundation has invested in The Borough FC to increase school attendance and improve English and Math performance, using football as an engagement engine.

Many Scarborough youth in Grades 6–12 face barriers like high low-income household rates, chronic absenteeism, and large academic gaps. Northpine Foundation has invested in The Borough FC to increase school attendance and improve English and Math performance, using football as an engagement engine, integrating coached training with mentorship, Study Tables for academic support, nutrition, and safe TTC transportation.

The pilot will scale steadily over 3 years, increasing reach to students referred through partner schools. The model includes school clinics, fully funded summer camp access, elite camp placements, and matchday leadership roles to create a pathway from participant to leader to mentor.

The initiative aims for improved program attendance, retention, and school attendance maintenance, with Northpine's investment enabling structured weekly cohorts, case tracking, and school-linked outcome measurement.
