Many Scarborough families face steep ‘furniture poverty’ with demand 5x outpacing Furniture Bank's supply since Northpine’s first investment in their Scarborough initiative. Their social enterprise model, now 80% self-funded through junk removal fees, employs clients in refurbishing and delivery but lacks the tools to tap corporate surplus from retailers and liquidators.

This Northpine Foundation investment in the Furniture Bank will support their efforts to secure steady business engagement, expand storage, and streamline agency access, while continuing to provide furniture to families in need. Crucially, it will also create paid employment for clients from target communities, helping them build skills in logistics, customer service, and operations.

Northpine Foundation is excited to invest in delivering essentials to furnish homes, and meaningful employment opportunities, for individuals and families across Scarborough.
