Mental Health Support for Rural, Remote Newfoundland and Labrador

Ruah

Rural Newfoundland and Labrador faces tough mental health realities with longer wait times for counselling, higher self-harm risks, and fewer local professionals, leaving many without timely help when they need it most.

Rural Newfoundland and Labrador faces tough mental health realities with longer wait times for counselling, higher self-harm risks, and fewer local professionals, leaving many without timely help when they need it most. Ruah Counselling Centre’s initiative offers compassionate, low-barrier services like individual, family, and group sessions for issues from anxiety and grief to stress and life transitions, delivered in-person, by phone, or virtually.

With Northpine’s investment they can now meet people where they are and offer reduced or no-fee counselling based on income, workshops on anger management, communication, and coping skills. With proven results, nearly all clients report better daily functioning and would return or recommend, Ruah is expanding to reach even more people in remote areas.

Northpine Foundation supports this vital work alongside partners like NL Health Services and CMHA Newfoundland and Labrador, to boost access, reduce crisis risks, and build stronger, healthier communities across the province.
