Food Entrepreneurship Program for Refugee Women

Newcomer Kitchen

Newcomer Kitchen Canada's food entrepreneurship program helps refugee women in Toronto and Ontario turn their informal food skills into legal income through self-employment or food industry jobs.

Though they have valuable food skills and eagerness to work, many refugee women are blocked from mainstream employment by requirements for Canadian work experience, recognized credentials, and English proficiency.

A Northpine Foundation investment in Newcomer Kitchen will support their program that offers a 3-month Foundations Program covering food business basics and compliance, followed by a 9-month Business Incubator providing business registration support, product development, and commercial readiness training.

Participants get to subsidized commercial kitchen space, industry-specific language training, and a vendor pathway allowing them to provide catering services through Newcomer Kitchen's existing customer channels.
